Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX
Traditionally I wear a pair of Asolo Fugitive GTX, however I wanted something lighter that can be worn on different terrains and for different activities. After talking to several friends and some testing, I decided to go for a pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX.
These shoes are rugged, light and comfortable. I went for the low version (they come with ankle support as well) because I wanted something I can wear while on the field, or running or just traveling.
They are great. I've worn the shoes on rainy days, on dry and hot days, muddy terrain and the urban jungle. They really adapt and provide day-long comfort. I recently worn them on a 42hr trip (see picture above) where I jumped on a plane, flew 10 hours, performed an assessment and flew 10 hrs removing the shoes only to go thru security (yeah... I know...) and my feet never felt tired or overly hot.
These are not cheap shoes, however they are worth the investment. Mine are almost a year old and they still look like new in spite of the harsh activities I've put them thru.
BTW, I have friends that even wear them on the field in Afghanistan and other demanding terrains and swear by them. They won't wear anything else.
