As long as I’ve been red teaming, I’ve heard that the community should adopt another name for the practice. “People don’t know what red teaming is,” I’ve been told. “You need to come up with something better, something more descriptive.” Alternative analysis, challenge analysis, penetration testing, devil’s advocacy–each is sometimes kicked around as a possible substitute, but each of these is either broader or more narrow, at least in my mind.
Is there a better term, or should we just do our best to ensure that the term red teaming earns the widespread recognition that it deserves?
This is an interesting question, however as time passes by, more and more key people are aware of Red Teams and what we do.
